This usually involves raking out the existing defective mortar and re-pointing in lime mortar.

The examples here are of an existing farmhouse within the Lake District National Park where we re-pointed the original stonework using a hot lime mix.
The top left shot shows the gable end of the farmhouse before the re-pointing work.
